The Pluses and Minuses of Bruno's Record
on Political Corruption Reform or
Why You Should Vote Against Joe Bruno
Over one year ago, the Governor introduced a campaign finance reform plan and the Democratic Assembly has passed two excellent campaign finance reform bills.
The Republican Senate has done nothing. On January 12, 2000, Republican Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno, made a solemn promise to the public to attack political corruption by coming forth with a campaign finance reform plan. (You can see his full statement at www.senate.state.ny.us.) He stated as follows:
"As so far as campaign finance reform is concerned, the Senate is looking at a number of proposals and we plan on unveiling our own plan in the coming weeks."

It is five months later and the session is about the end without Joe Bruno keeping his promise. The Republican Senators have offered no reform plan.
Majority Bruno broke his promise of reform he made to the public. We are resolved that every marginal Republican Senator up for re-election will pay the price for this broken promise on November 7th.
In recent weeks, we have learned why the Republican Senators have done nothing. Bruno's recent "swimming pool" scandal is proof that the Republican Senators have been too busy milking the corruption in the current system to ever think of reforming it. Many other Senators have now been caught using their campaign contributions for personal gain.
